No Google Cloud

A Shopify store locator without Google Maps.

The Shop Maps runs a store locator on MapLibre by default. You do not need a Google Cloud project or a Google Maps API key to go live. Price is $4.99 every 30 days after a 7-day trial. Unlimited locations.

Most “just embed Google Maps” tutorials leave you with a Cloud project, a restricted key, and a map that cannot search hours or list stores. Locator apps that sit on Google Maps still push that key problem onto you, or they bake Google into a higher-priced plan.

The Shop Maps ships a locator — map, list, search, nearest, directions, hours — without that setup. If you later want Google tiles, paste your own key in Appearance. Until then, leave it blank.

What you avoid

  • Creating a Google Cloud project
  • Enabling Maps JavaScript and billing
  • Key restrictions and unexpected Maps invoices
  • A map with no store hours, search, or list

What you still get

The same product as the rest of the site: map + list on any page, hours and holidays, CSV and Shopify Locations import, appearance controls, analytics. See how to add it and features.

Do I need a Google Cloud project for a Shopify store locator?

Not with The Shop Maps. The map runs on MapLibre by default. A Google Maps API key is optional, only if you want Google tiles.

Why skip Google Maps?

A self-serve Google Maps embed needs a Cloud project, an API key, and billing. Keys leak, quotas surprise you, and the map still is not a store locator with hours and search.

Can I still use Google tiles?

Yes. Paste your own Google Maps API key in Appearance. Leave it blank to keep the default map.
